Butter Tarts

A butter tart is a type of small pastry tart highly regarded in Canadian cuisine and considered one of Canada's quint essential desserts. The tart consists of butter, sugar, syrup, and egg filled into a flaky pastry and baked until the filling is semi-solid with a crunchy top.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Butter or Margarine
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar (Packed)
  • 1/2 cup Raisons (Optional)
  • 1 Egg (Large)
  • 12 Small Pastry Shells
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla.
  2. Beat in egg and corn syrup.
  3. Spoon raisins into tart shells.
  4. Pour the filling into tart shell 2/3 full. Overfilling will cause spill over while baking.
  5. Bake at 375F for 15 - 18 minutes or until lightly browned.
